...does the Merlin character in Shrek 3 bear more than a passing
resemblance to Pterry? I wondered but then my son commented on it too,
so maybe it isn't just me... Or perhaps its because the humour of
Eric Idle and Pterry comes from the same tradition?

I think you mean "old bald white guy with a grey-white full beard and
round glasses". Most of us bearded old guys don't match that
description.

And even when matching that more accurate description, people don't look
alike; Terry Pratchett has a weaker chin and wider cheekbones than
Sigmund Freud had, making them look quite different.
